Dear 2018 Postgraduate Student,

Welcome to the Faculty of Commerce.

Registration takes place from mid-January 2018 until mid-March 2018; students must ensure that they attend registration on the scheduled date as stipulated below or as advised by the department. Students should also make their initial payment by 9th February 2018 to avoid any penalties.

All international students (including SADC countries) must report to the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) for pre-registration clearance. This will include fee clearance, presenting your study permit and your health insurance information. Your registration at the Faculty will not be processed if you have not been cleared by IAPO. If you have any queries regarding the pre-registration process, please contact IAPO at int- iapo@uct.ac.za or alternatively at +27 21 650 2822 / 3740

South African students need to submit a certified copy of their Identity Document (ID) at registration. Students with conditional offers, that still need to submit their certified final hardcopy of their transcript, should submit at registration.

REGISTRATION DETAILS – 2018

 

  • All new and returning foreign students, both SADC and non-SADC, must pre-register at IAPO (Masingene Building, Middle Campus) producing a valid study permit, proof of medical insurance and provide proof that they have paid their tuition fee costs.
  • Students with fee debts must produce a fee clearance letter prior to registration. These are obtainable from the Fees Office (Masingene Building, Middle Campus) and must be brought to the registration venue.
  • Failure to adhere to stipulated registration dates will result in the prescribed late registration fee. (Refer rule G6.1 in the General Rules and Policies Book 3).

2018 REGISTRATION DATES & VENUES

International and SADC students: All new and returning international and SADC students must go to the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) in Masingene Building on Middle Campus and obtain pre‐ registration clearance by presenting their proof of payment of fees, passport, study visa and proof of medical insurance. Once IAPO pre‐registration clearance has been obtained, registration forms can be collected from the relevant department and completed there, followed by registration data capture at specific venues as indicated below.

Outstanding Fees: Students with fee debts must produce a fee clearance letter prior to registration. These are obtainable from the Fees Office (Kramer Building, Middle Campus) and must be brought to the registration venue.

Masters by research (100% dissertation) and PhD students – new and returning: Students registering for research degrees must register no later than 14 February 2018. Masters and PhD students registering for a dissertation/thesis must submit a completed, signed Memorandum of Understanding in order to register.

New and returning PG Diploma, Honours and Coursework Masters (Minor dissertation) students – new and returning: Students registering for coursework degrees must do so by the dates stipulated in the table below. Masters students registering for a minor dissertation must submit a completed, signed Memorandum of Understanding in order to register.

Late registration: A late registration fee of R2000 will automatically be charged to your fee account if you register after the dates specified below. Only the Dean can waive the late registration penalty and only in exceptional circumstances which must be fully motivated in writing.

Initial fee payments: An initial fee payment is required by Friday, 9 February 2018. If payment is not received on or before the due date, a late payment fee of 10% of the unpaid amount will be charged.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

2018

POSTGRADUATE REGISTRATIONS

All students MUST produce their identity document at registration.

Honours students will register online and be informed by late December 2017 of the process and dates.

Registration for new Master’s (coursework & minor dissertation) students will take place at a time and venue to be arranged by your department. Registration forms must be captured by the Faculty Office by 14 February 2018.

Master’s and PhD students (new or returning) should refer to http://www.science.uct.ac.za/sci/postgrad/current/registration to access all the required registration documents.

International Students (excluding Postdoctoral Fellows)

Please report to the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO), in the Masingene Student Administration Building, Middle Campus. (For further information, please refer to

http://www.iapo.uct.ac.za/iapo/intstud/orientationpre-reg or email: int-iapo@uct.ac.za). You must produce a valid study permit, medical insurance certificate and proof of payment of fees in order to obtain clearance before registering at the Faculty Office.

Late registration

A late registration penalty of R2000 will apply.

Students with Outstanding Fees

You will NOT be allowed to register until your fee account has been settled. Please make the required payments at the Fees Office prior to registering at the Faculty.
